Joy attended Ayala High School and participated in both marching and concert WGI ensembles for 4 years. She would then go on to spend two seasons with Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps, and one season with Riverside Community College Indoor Percussion. After her time with the Blue Devils in 2011, she turned her passion for performing in pageantry to dedicating energy in educating students within the same community. She has taught several percussion programs in the greater Los Angeles area and Orange County. She currently teaches at Arcadia High School and South Hills High School and is also an active private teacher in Southern California.
As an active performer, Joy received numerous awards and titles for piano and percussion performance. Most recently, she was a PASIC Scholarship recipient in 2013, and was a solo winner at the PAS central California competition for both Marimba, and Multi-Percussion. She gained extensive knowledge beyond the percussion curriculum under the direction of Dr. Nicholas Terry (Los Angeles Percussion Quartet), and Dr. Justin DeHart (Los Angeles Percussion Quartet) while attending Chapman University in Orange, CA.Joy graduated in December, 2014 With a B.A. in Music and B.A. in Psychology. She will begin her two-year Master’s program at CalState Long Beach in pursuit to be a Marriage and Family Therapist this fall.
