Carl has a long history in the marching and pageantry arts activity that covers over 30 years of experience as a performer, designer, instructor, administrator, and adjudicator.
Carl graduated from Cypress High School in 1989 after a successful high school music career, and went on to be a member of the six-time world champion Santa Clara Vanguard from 1990 – 1992. During this time, he began to instruct in the Southern California region, and began his drill designing career. Carl has designed for some of the best marching bands, winter guards and winter drum lines in the country.
As a qualified visual judge in high demand for DCI, marching band, winter guard and winter drum line competitions across the country, Carl travels throughout the United States participating in the highest caliber of events as an adjudicator and clinician.
Administratively, Carl is currently the Director of Operations for the California State Band Championships (CSBC) where he oversees the region’s largest marching band circuit. Previously, Carl was the Director of Operations for the Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC) and the Marching Band Open Series (MBOS), where he was instrumental in the growth of the organization and pageantry arts in Southern California.
For the past 14 years Carl has enjoyed a successful career in public safety as a Police Dispatcher for the 7th largest school district in California, the Santa Ana School Police Department. While serving as a police dispatcher, alarm monitor, and training officer for the department Carl is also involved in special events and is the only tactical dispatcher for critical incidents in the department.
In his free time, Carl enjoys spending time with his wife Dia of 20 years and his sons Logan and Tyler.
