A little about ourselves…
The South Hills High School Band & Color Guard is comprised of the SHHS Marching Band, Color Guard, Percussion Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble. These groups actively perform and compete in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA), Southern California Percussion Alliance (SCPA) and Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC) circuits representing South Hills High School and the Covina Valley Unified School District or “CVUSD”.
In addition to the many local performances and competitions we participate in, we also travel. We have participated in the Hawaii Invitational held in Honolulu, Hawaii, the WGI World Championships held in Dayton, Ohio, the Reno International Jazz Festival held in Reno, Nevada, and several WGI Regionals in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Each fall, schools across Southern California submit audition videos and an application to take part in the Disneyland Performing Arts Showcase. The South Hills High School Band and Color Guard has been selected for the past several years to march the famous Main Street at the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, California USA leading off the Christmas Fantasy Parade. The opportunity is really a dream come true for the students and the spectators just love the sight of marching bands going down the Main Street. After the parade, our students spend the rest of the day enjoying Disneyland’s attractions.
“Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.”
Gerald Ford
