“Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence.”
Colin Powell

The DRUMLINE is open to all South Hill High School students who are interested in joining.  Drumline is a fun and exciting activity that helps to build teamwork, discipline, coordination and musicality.  We have a great Drumline, and everyone enjoys being a part of it.  Pit is a part of the Drumline.  The Drumline performs predominantly with the SHHS Marching Band Percussion in the fall, but also performs independently in the winter during Winter Drumline.

WINTER DRUMLINE is an indoor marching percussion ensemble that travels, performs, and competes during the winter months each year.  The indoor Drumline is just like a marching band but only a Drumline.  A mat is rolled out onto the floor and a grid is used to march on and play the show. The other part of the winter Drumline is the pit. The pit also is known as the front ensemble consists of the vibes, bass drum, guitarists, synths, bells, and marimbas.  Being in the Drumline, you’ll learn discipline, teamwork, the value of practice, and maybe someday leadership, all attributes that carry into life.

Drumline is made up of musicians who are members of the battery or pit percussion.  Members of the battery play the snares, tenor drums and bass drums. Member of the pit play instruments such as mallet keyboards, synthesizer, triangle, bass drum, bells, and other auxiliary instruments needed.

Joining the Drumline counts for P.E. credits.  Drumline is a lot of fun and is a great way to make new friends, get involved in school spirit, and keep playing your instrument.

Don’t miss it ! … Invite your friends who will be attending SHHS in the Fall to audition !  We have many awesome things planned for the 2021 season, and we would love to have more students join us ! ! !

WHAT IS COLOR GUARD?

COLOR GUARD is more then just spinning flags and back up dancers; we tell stories and add color to the show.  Color guard is the musical interpretation of what our very own SHHS Marching Band play at half time and Competitions. We illustrate the point the music is trying to convey to the listeners.  The color guard is really what tells the story.  They add color, effect, drama, and emotion to the show.  Even though you can tell how dramatic a show is by the type of music, the color guard adds to that.  Color guard is open to all genders grades 9-12, with or without experience and anyone who is interested !

Color guard is full of technique and dance.  We portray the music with equipment through ballet, jazz, and modern dance.  Color guard is not just about having fun, traveling, and meeting new friends. It is also about confidence building, high self-esteem, endurance, balance, emotion, feeling, passion – in short, it is about self-discipline, responsibility, being sensitive, more human, more compassionate, and more REAL LIFE.

The Color Guard use special equipment, such as sabres, rifles, and flags, to compete by division.  Whether it’s on the field, in the stands, or on parade, the SHHS Color Guard brings an exciting visual element to each and every South Hills High School Marching Band performance !

Winter Guard is the sport of indoor color guard. Modern color guard is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, mock rifles, and other equipment, as well as dance and other interpretive movement.

Color Guard count for 1 semester of P.E. credit.  Are you considering joining the SHHS Color Guard ?  You’ll never know if you like something if you don’t at least try it.  Dip your toes in the water, and see what it’s all about.  Color guard may not be for everyone, but there’s no point in giving up before you’ve even started.
