Commitment to Excellence

The success of the South Hills High School Music Program is dependent upon the dedication, attendance, and appropriate behavior of all members of the group. Absences and tardiness from rehearsals have a significant effect on the band’s ability to move ahead, as do negative or inappropriate behaviors. When you step outside of the school you are representing not only yourself; but your parents, town, community, school, administration and teachers.

Everyone has worked really hard to get where they are in life, and it is important that is not threatened by behavior that should not even need to be discussed.  Every successful organization has expectations of conduct or behavior. This policy is aimed at providing a positive working and learning environment for all students in order to attain the highest level of achievement and performance.

Attendance

Attendance at all Marching Band rehearsals and performances is mandatory. Schedules are released months in advance so please use these schedules for future planning to avoid conflicts with rehearsals and performances. Attendance is the main ingredient to a successful band program.  We do understand that occasionally a conflict may occur.  You must alert the director as soon as you become aware of the conflict so that a compromise may be reached.  Consistent attendance is critical to the success of the overall group. Communication is key !

Attitude

A positive attitude is the key to success.  Not everything you encounter in your life will go your way, but you can learn for all experiences that you have. Approaching everything with a positive outlook will not only improve the quality of your life, but will improve the quality of life of those around you.

Behavior

It is expected that you always represent the program in a mature manner at all rehearsals and performances.  Always think before you act and always show respect for those involved in the department and for the integrity and reputation of the South Hill High School Music Program.

Equipment and Facilities

All equipment and facilities are to be treated with the utmost respect and care.

Accountability

You are responsible for your own actions. Individual accountability is of the utmost importance–be prepared for the consequences of your choices.
