Edgard Areas is an aspiring educator with a passion for Colorguard and Dance performance. He is a South Hills High School alumnus who graduated in 2007. Originally a trumpet player, he started playing music in middle school and continued throughout most of his time in high school. It was not until his sophomore year where he joined Colorguard and has been a performer ever since. After graduating high school, he spent the summer of 2007 as a member of the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. He is also proud to have been a member of Fantasia Winterguard from 2014-2015.
From 2007-2012, Edgard attended the University of California, Riverside where he received a B.A. in Languages with a focus on Japanese, Chinese, and French. During this time, he decided to take a break from Colorguard and devote his time and energy to his studies. He did enroll himself in dance courses to broaden his range and continued performing. He has taught several dance classes and also had the privelege to participate in a variety of concerts and performances such as:
- UCR is Dancing, an annual presentation of original choreography by students in the UCR Department of Dance (2009, 2012)
- “almost like nostalgia”, an MFA Dance Thesis. (2012)
- Riverside
- Trolley Dances, a production of site-specific dances across various locations in Riverside, CA. (2013)
- GLUCK Fellows Program of the Arts, a scholarship program that brings the arts into the surrounding community with a wide variety of performances, workshops, and presentations aimed at school children, the elderly, and community groups. (2012)
After graduating college, Edgard rekindled his love for Colorguard and began teaching at San Marino High School where he has coached for the past 3 years. He later joined the Colorguard staff at his Alma Mater in 2014. He also had the pleasure to work with System Blue this year and teach and help many high school students develop their Colorguard and performance skills.
Edgard is excited to take on the role of Caption Head for the Colorguard and looks forward to giving back to the program that helped shape him into the person he is today.
